This week is qualifying for our Club Championships, and if I'm honest, I'm feeling a few nerves.
Life and the weather haven't exactly helped with my preparation. There haven't been enough rounds or nearly enough practice.
Yesterday I headed to the practice area at Miramar for some iron work, chipping, bunker shots and putting. Today, I'm playing nine holes as a warm-up before tomorrow's round.
Will it guarantee a decent round? I seriously doubt it.
But I do feel better knowing I've done something to prepare.
There are definitely nerves. In fact, I think I'm my own worst enemy. The expectations I place on myself can sometimes be a touch unrealistic.
So tomorrow, I'm letting them go.
Instead, I'm going to celebrate how fortunate I am to be playing this awesome game.
I'll focus on one shot at a time.
If I have a bad hole, I'll try to let it go and move on.
Now all of this maybe easier said than done. But I can try!
I'll try to keep my thoughts quiet, stay calm, and celebrate the company of my playing partners. I absolutely love cheering someone else's great shot. Somehow, this lifts me.
So, tomorrow isn't about playing perfect golf.
It's about giving myself the best chance, enjoying the experience and remembering why I love this game in the first place.
Wish me luck... I'll let you know how it goes.
See you next Friday,
